Before we begin, I think it’s most important to tell you the mother of all tips for a flat stomach: perseverance.
It’s easy to say but not so easy to maintain all the time. Especially when you’re first beginning, it isn’t a race; it’s more of a marathon. When you start training for a marathon you start slow and build up your endurance. The same is true of losing stubborn belly fat.
1. Don't expect to lose more than 2 lbs. of fat each week, flat abs are not going to come overnight. Think of how much time it took to put on all that weight: the good news is, it won’t take that long to take it off.2. Do eat breakfast, preferably high protein and within 30 minutes of waking, as the nutrition plan you embark on will make as much difference to your getting a six pack as exercise.

4. Eat the right carbs with every small meal. Not the ones we crave, but the ones with lots of fiber. Fibrous carbs help to make you get that “full” sensation more than any other foods, and fiber carbs are generally low in calories, an important flat stomach tip.
5. Don't go a long time without eating. This is one of the main causes of overeating and puts your body into starvation mode.

7. Don't eat large portions, start by cutting your regular helping sizes in half. It will seem drastic at first, but the "super-size me” philosophy is a recipe for disaster.
8. Drink plenty of water. Do whatever you have to do to start drinking it, but set a goal to drink 2 litres minimum per day. When you drink water, it will flushes out harmful toxins that keep fat in your body.
9. Don't do extreme diets! These diets make unfounded claims, promising you can drop 20lbs in a week. Be ambitious sure, but be realistic when it comes to your body.
10. The biggest adjustment I recommend is the increasing the number of times you eat everyday. You’re already reducing your portion size, so just eat more often, aim for six small meals a day.
11. Eat 5 - 7 fruits and vegetables every day. These are some other sources of high fiber good carb foods. Avoid too much fruit as it is loaded with sugar (fructose) that will spike your blood sugar and trigger fat storage.
12. Apart from good eating habits, the best way to washboard abs is through exercise. It immediately increases your metabolism, which is what burns fat your body has already stored..
13. Get to the gym and lift weights. Focus on the crunch machine with weight you can handle, another one of the most effective of the tips for a flat stomach.
14. Skip the sit-ups. That’s right, it’s one of the biggest exercise myths there is... and your back will thank you!
15. Aim for at least some form of cardio exercise every day or second day. Mix up the duration and the intensity levels for the most benefit.
16. The best of the tips for a flat stomach we saved for last. Get a minimum of eight hours sleep a night. 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep and your body will burn 500 calories before you wake up!
